Azrek: Saqlawi Jidran of the marbat of Ibn ed Derri, bred by Shaykh Mashlab Ibn al-Dirri of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah tribe. Purchased directly from his breeder by Zeyd Saad El Muteyri sent in desert specifically for that purpose by Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt in March 1887. Azrek arrived in Egypt by land together other two horses at the end of summer. Azrek was shipped to England the following Spring 1888. Fleabitten grey with black mane, tail ,legs and ears. Azrek was admired for his action and his prepotent ability to pass it on to his foals and for many generations. Azrek was described in 1891 by Lady Anne Blunt as: "A magnificent horse in every way, grand head and neck, powerful shoulder and unrivaled trotting action...enormous strength of back and quarter...tail set very high and splendidly carried...the sinew literally like steel to the the touch. Great speed and impossible to tire. His stock superior to any other sire yet in the stud." Azrek was sold to Hon. Cecil Rhodes, South Africa in 1891 His sire line is lost. It survives through the productions of his daughters and grandaughters.
