Comment:
Who is the real father of Dahman El Azrak (1893)? Lady Anne (J&C) refers to two grey stallions, both sons of the mare Farida El Debbani, both owned by Prince Ahmed Pasha Kemal. In particular one of them was bred by Ahmed Bey Sennari, and THEN owned by Prince Ahmed Pasha Kemal; the other was bred and owned by Prince Ahmed Pasha Kemal. ( This would make sense as to whether Prince Ahmed would have given the same name to two stallions born only few years apart). The first older of these two stallions is described as by Koheilan El Mossen [J&C, 9 March.1904, pag 298], "...a white Dahman Shahwan, dam the Dahmeh that belonged to Ahmed Bey Sennari, sire the Keh. A. of Mesenneh strain brought to Ahmed Bey Sennari from the desert, a handsome and very strong horse but wanting in something of quality" The second, younger is described (J&C, pag 318) as 14 years, not for sale, his dam Ferida, the Dahmeh Shahwanieh of Senari, his sire the old white Seglavi: a splendid horse, the old fashioned type of Aly Pasha Sherif. Prince Ahmed used to ride him." During the description of, a daughter of Rabdan El Azrak Lady Anne points the father of Rabdan as Dahman, whose dam was Ferida the white Dahmeh Shahwaniyah (from Abbas Pasha's stud) of Ahmed Bey Sennari, his sire the old white Segl. Jedran Ahmed Pasha got from Ali Pasha Sherif" So, where did come the descripiton of Jamil El Ahmar as the father of Dahman El Azrak? 1) Most likely Farida El Debbani had many colts as her production, and we are able to understand reading the comments of Lady Anne Blunt in her J&C. 2) For what we know from Lady Anne Blunt, Farida El Debbani had a son by Kehilan El Mossen (Koheilan El Mossen), and he was the father of Bint Noma, a Koheilan Nowakiyah, and a son by Saklawi I and this one was the father of Rabdan El Azrak. 3) Lady Anne Blunt's 1909 Sheykh Obeyd Catalog describes the sire of Noma and Sabah as "Dahman a white [flea bitten] Dahman Shahwan bred by Prince Ahmed Pasha, his dam Ferida, his sire Jamil, Dark Bay Seglawi Jedran, bred by Prince Ahmed Pasha..." BUT in the original copy of her Stud Book that she kept in England, Lady Anne has erased-with her very distinctive cancel- the name of Jamil and in its place inserted that of Koheilan El Mesenneh, the desert bred stallion belonging to Ahmed Bey El Sennari. There is not a single mention in Lady Anne Blunt’s Journals and Correspondence of a Dahman of Ahmed Pasha Kamal sired by Jamil out of Farida of Ahmed Bey Sennari. So, as Mr. Edouard Al Dahdah says in his blog " I think it is time to change the pedigrees and the sire lines".
